taiga

the northern coniferous forest which stretches in a broad band across the northern hemisphere just below the Arctic circle - winters are long and extremely cold, whith average subfreezing temperatures, frost free growing seasons as short as 50 days


temperate (rain) forest

occur in North (Pacific Northwest) and South America, Australia, and New Zealand, - high rainfall and moderate temperatures creates ideal ecosystem for the abundant growth of forest plants


temperate grasslands

found in the interiors of continents where there is too little rinfall for trees to grow, prairies, steppes in Russia and Ukraine, and the pampas of South AMerica.  Mountains can crucial role in maintaining grasslands, by blocking the amount of rain a grassland receives


tropical rain forest

occur in a belt around the world near the equator,they are always humid and warm and get about 250 cm (100 in) of rain a year, get strong sunlight year roud, maintaing a climate with little seasonal variation in temperature; warm wet conditions also nurish more plants species than any other biome


tundra

a biome with tall trees that lie north of the Arctic circle, supports mostly tough grasses and shrubs; summers are short so only the top few inches of soil thaw, and underneath lies the permafrost
