9.3 Assessment Item Development

Student Evidence

How will students demonstrate knowledge of the assessment target(s) you identified in the last part of this lesson? Students will do this by providing evidence. Evidence is what the students do in order to demonstrate understanding of the assessment target(s). It is possible for there to be multiple evidences that students need to demonstrate.

Using your assessment target(s), identify the evidence students need to provide in order to demonstrate knowledge of the assessment target. To assist you with identifying the student evidence required for your assessment item, please review the assessment target and student evidence examples below:

Assessment Target Student Evidence
Develop understanding of fractions as numbers. Student can create visual representations of fractions that range from one-half to four-fifths.
Use explicit details and implicit information from the text to support answers or basic inferences

When reading literary text, students

  1. Cite specific evidence which supports interpretations of various literary and graphic elements within the text; OR
  2. Make comparisons on how information related to theme, topic or events is influenced by different presentations, perspectives or formats.
Analyze the figurative (e.g., euphemism, oxymoron, hyperbole, paradox) or connotative meanings of words and phrases used in context and the impact of these word choices on meaning and tone. When reading informational or argumentative texts, students analyze the figurative texts, students analyze the figurative or implied meanings of words or phrases as they are used int  a text and analyze how the choice of these particular words affects meaning and tone.


Digital Portfolio

Using the above information, identify the evidence required to demonstrate knowledge of the assessment target and add it to the item specification table in your Digital Portfolio under section 9.3.
